Reference hubDestination Markets for Imported Steel Frames and Skids
The destination of a steel frame decides more of its cost and paperwork than the drawing does. It sets the tariff and any trade measures, carbon reporting such as the EU CBAM, conformity marking such as CE, the codes the owner expects and the documents the customs broker needs. These pages take one destination each and list the checks in the order they bite. As of October 2026; rules change, so each page names its sources.
| Destination | Border | Product rules | Codes the owner expects | Page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Section 232 on steel and derivatives, melt-and-pour reporting, other duties by origin | Buy America rules on federally funded work | AWS D1.1, AISC 360 and 303, ASTM grades | Imported steel frames for US projects |
| European Union | TARIC duty, CBAM on heading 7308, 2026 steel import measure | CE marking under EN 1090-1, machinery rules for machine frames | EN 1090-2, EN 10025, ISO 12944 | Steel frames for EU projects |
Order of checks for any market
- Tariff code of the frame as shipped (bare frame, fitted skid or module).
- Duties and trade measures for that code and the country of origin.
- Carbon and origin data the importer must report (CBAM, melt and pour).
- Conformity marking for the product type.
- Codes and documents the owner will check at acceptance.
Rule pages for single regimes (CBAM, CE marking, Build America, Buy America, AS/NZS 5131) are on the import rules hub. Codes are on the codes hub.
When you know the destination, send it with the drawing and we reply within 24 business hours.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the country the frame is made in change these rules?
- Some rules depend on origin (preferential duty, some trade remedies, melt-and-pour treatment) and some do not (Section 232 base rates, CE marking, codes). Each market page says which is which.
- Are these pages legal or customs advice?
- No. They set out what to ask and where to check, as of the review date. Confirm duty, classification and conformity rules with your customs broker and the authority before ordering.
- CBP, Section 232 tariffs on aluminum and steel FAQs
- European Commission, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
